Schizophrenia


Definition

A mental illness in which one interprets reality unusually, involving a combination of hallucinations, delusions, and extremely disordered thinking.

 

There are different types of schizophrenia, including

  • Paranoid schizophrenia
  • Catatonic schizophrenia
  • Disorganized or hebephrenic schizophrenia
  • Residual schizophrenia
  • Undifferentiated schizophrenia
 

What are the symptoms of schizophrenia?

Of the many symptoms of schizophrenia, here are a few:
  • Delusions, hallucinations, disorganized thinking and/or speech
  • Extremely disorganized or abnormal motor behavior
  • Negative symptoms like lack of ability to function regularly such as lack of hygiene
  • Loss of interest in daily activities
