So, what are ACEs?

 

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are Potentially Traumatic events that occur before the age of 18. Aces Include:

  • Recurrent physical, sexual or emotional abuse

  • Emotional or physical neglect

  • Domestic violence between parents

  • Alcoholic parent(s)

  • Substance abusing parent(s)

  • Incarcerated family member

  • Living with someone who is chronically depressed

  • Suicidal, institutionalized or mentally ill family member

  • Living with one or no biological parents (includes divorce)

  • Chronic or terminally ill family member

  • Loss of a family member or close friend

  • Bullying

  • Inability to afford food and housing

  • Homelessness

  • Experiencing racism

  • Violent neighborhood

  • Weather related issues (e.g. hurricane, tornado)

  • Pandemic
