How to offer help to a friend or loved one struggling with mental health

 
 

Knowing that a friend or loved one is struggling with mental health can be painful, but there are ways to help

Leave yourself open

  • Let your friend or family member know that you're there for them, during any stage and every stage of mental illness they may be going through.

Help open a support system

  • Talk to other friends and family members who are also concerned, and let them know that they could be a resource themselves. Let them know that they have the option of leaving themselves open as well, offering more avenues of help.

Use Resources

  • It can be tough knowing what to say to your friend or family member. Reach out to a counselor or use other resources (more on our resource page) to assist you in offering help.
