  • Over 60% of youth age 17 and younger have been exposed to crime, violence and abuse

  • 26% of children age 4 and under in the U.S will witness or experience a traumatic event

  • 39% of children, ages 12-17, reported witnessing violence

  • 17% of children, ages 12-17, reported being a victim of physical assault

  • 8% of children, ages 12-17, reported being the victim of sexual assault

  • 2.5 million grandparents take on parenting roles when their adult children are incarcerated, addicted, or are suffering with mental illness

  • 1 in 20 children experience the death of a parent before they reach the age of 15

  • 10 million children in the U.S. have had one or both parents incarcerated.

  • 2.8 million kids in the U.S are living with no biological parent

  • 1 in 5 children in the U.S. live with a parent suffering from mental illness

  • 25% of children of parents with a mental illness develop substance abuse issues in comparison to 4.5% of other children
  • 45% of people in the U.S. have been exposed to some form of alcoholism or alcoholic behaviors in their family, and as many as 26.8 million of those people are children
  • More than 9 million children in the US live with a parent who uses illicit drugs - they are at greater risk for depression and anxiety, and they are 4x more likely to develop future addiction
