Definition
There are four types of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, including:
- Normal Stress Response
- Acute Stress disorder
- Uncomplicated PTSD
- Co-morbid PTSD
What are the symptoms of PTSD?
- Recurring flashbacks and/or nightmares
- Severe anxiety
- Uncontrollable thoughts about the event

About 8 million adults have PTSD during a given year.
This is only a small portion of those who have gone through a trauma.

Increased rates of PTSD are found in those who have jobs that place them at risk for being a part of a traumatic event, such as police officers, nurses, and firefighters.
The highest rates for PTSD occur among sexual assault survivors, military veterans who have been in combat, and survivors of genocide.
